Thin Flap Lasik

Like most experienced surgeons, Dr. Newman will target an 80–100 micron flap, which maximizes the safety of the procedure. This advanced technique preserves greater corneal strength and can provide a faster visual recovery and decreased chance of dry eye.

This, coupled with the VISX excimer laser platform — which is one of the most tissue-sparing laser vision correction systems available — increases the likelihood that a prospective patient will qualify for the LASIK procedure, where in the past they may have been non-candidates due to high prescriptions or thin corneas. All Laser Lasik

Femtosecond laser technologies such as the Intralase and Ziemer LDV are highly advanced devices utilized during the first step of the LASIK procedure. These lasers focus an infrared beam of light on the cornea to separate tissue through a process called photodisruption. Studies have shown them to be very safe alternatives to thin flap microkeratome LASIK with excellent visual outcomes. We offer Fifth Generation Intralase iFS technology, which can increase patient safety and minimize the risk of dry eye. This is the most advanced LASIK technology available today, and it is approved by both NASA and the U.S. Air Force for our pilots and astronauts.

PRK

PRK laser vision correction is used to correct astigmatism as well as nearsightedness and farsightedness. It is generally reserved for thin corneas and higher prescriptions, along with corneal epithelial anomalies. It is a very simple procedure from a patient's perspective, and it provides the same visual results as LASIK. This procedure can be done with both wavefront custom and traditional technology. The primary difference between PRK and LASIK is that the recovery for PRK is longer and can be more uncomfortable.

Monovision / Blended Vision

Monovision LASIK and PRK are forms of laser vision correction that correct presbyopia (aging of the eyes). It takes advantage of ocular dominance and provides patients who wear bifocals the ability to read without glasses.
